Article Manager menu

This menu controls articles and reviews. Articles are "extras" such as news about your store (upcoming sales, etc.), guides to choosing or using products.

Topics/Articles

Create, edit, and manage articles in this menu. Note that unless you change the author settings in the Configuration menu, you must create at least one Author in the Author menu (accessible by clicking "New Author" in the Topics/Articles menu) before you can create an article. See Store Management, Section 3.3 of the Online Manual for more information.

Configuration

This menu provides you full control over the configuration and appearance of articles and of the Article Manager. See Store Management, Section 3.3.1 of the Online Manual for more information.

Display New Articles Link — Select "True" to display a link to a page containing New Articles in the Article Manager infobox.

Number of Days Display New Articles — Enter the number of days after their creation that articles will be considered "New Articles."

Maximum New Articles Per Page — Enter the maximum number of New Articles to display per page when customers view New Articles.

Display All Articles Link —  Select "True" to display a link to a page containing all articles in the Article Manager infobox.

Maximum Articles Per Page — Enter the maximum number of articles to display per page.

Maximum Display Upcoming Articles — Enter the maximum number of articles to display in the Upcoming Articles module.

Enable Article Reviews — Select "True" to allow customers to post reviews of articles. Only customers who have cretaed accounts with your store can post article reviews. These reviews will appear at the end of each article.

Enable Tell a Friend About Article — Select "True" to display a button on each article page allowing a customer to send an automatic email with a link to the article.

Minimum Number Cross-Sell Products — Enter the minimum number of products to display in the "Cross-Sell Articles" listing.

Maximum Number Cross-Sell Products — Enter the maximum number of products to display in the "Cross-Sell Articles" listing.

Show Article Counts — Select "True" to display in the Article Manager infobox the number of articles in each category.

Maximum Length of Author Name — Enter the maximum number of characters to display for an article Author's name. If you do not wish to use authors, enter 0.

Authors List Style — Enter the maximum number of authors to display in the "Authors" box. When the number of authors exceeds this value, a drop-down list will be shown instead of expanding the box to list all authors in a single screen.

Authors Select Box Size — Enter the number of rows to use for displaying the list of authors. Enter 1 to display authors in a drop-down list.

Display Author in Article Listing — Select "True" to display the author's name along with an article. If you do not wish to use authors, select "False."

Display Topic in Article Listing — Select "True" to display the topic name along with an article.

Display Abstract in Article Listing — Select "True" to display an abstract or summary along with an article.

Display Date Added in Article Listing — Select "True" to display the date on which the article was created.

Maximum Article Abstract Length — Enter the maximum number of characters allowable for an article abstract.

Display Topic/Author Filter — Select "True" to display the topic/author filter.

Location of Prev/Next Navigation Bar — If you have more than one page of articles, select whether you want to display the "Previous" and "Next" navigation bar at the top of the page, at the bottom of the page, or at both the top and bottom of the page.

Use WYSIWYG HTML Editor? — Select "Enable" to use the WYSIWYG editor for creeating and editing articles.

WYSIWYG Editor Basic/Advanced Version? — Select whether you want to use the "Basic" or "Advanced" WYSIWIG editor. The Advanced editor has more features but takes longer to load, which may be an issue with slower servers or Internet connections.

WYSIWYG Editor Layout Width — Enter the width in pixels for the text field in the WYSIWIG editor.

WYSIWYG Editor Layout Height — Enter the height in pixels for text field in the WYSIWIG editor.

WYSIWYG Editor Font Type — Select the default font to use for creating text in the WYSIWIG editor.

WYSIWYG Editor Font Size — Select the default font size in points to use for creating text in the WYSIWIG editor.

WYSIWYG Editor Font Colour — Enter the default font color or HTML color code to use for creating text in the WYSIWIG editor.

WYSIWYG Editor Background Colour — Enter the default background color or HTML color code to use for the text field in the WYSIWIG editor.

WYSIWYG Editor Allow Debug Mode? — Select 1 to use the HTML debugger when creating articles.

Authors

Create and edit article author listings in this menu.

If you do not want to display author names along with articles, "Maximum Length of Author Name" must be set to "0" and "Display Author in Article Listing" must be set to "False" in the Configuration menu.

Article Reviews

If you allow customers to post reviews of articles, all reviews posted will appear in this menu. See Store Management, Section 3.1 of the Online Manual for more information about reviews.

Click the red dot under "Approved" to approve an article and have it appear on your site. Approved articles will have a green dot in this column. You can also click "Approve" in the Edit menu to approve an article.

To edit a review, select the review and click "Edit." Make whatever changes are necessary and click "Preview." Review the article, then click "Update to save your changes, "Back" to make more changes, or "Cancel" to abandon your changes.

Cross-Sell Articles

Cross-selling refers to the practice of suggesting related merchandise on a given product's page, such as a sequel to a book or movie, a blouse that matches a skirt, a gaming keyboard for use with a video game, etc. See Sales and Promotions, Section 3.3 of the Online Manual for more information on cross-selling.

Cross-selling articles to products is similar -- any products mentioned in an article can be featured at the bottom of the page, so that customers can click directly on products rather than having to search for them in your catalog. See Sales and Promotions, Section 3.4 of the Online Manual for more information

This menu lists all articles. To cross-sell an article to a product, highlight the article, click "Add/Remove," and select the products you wish to cross-sell on the article page. Click "Save" when you are done.
